The Pico Neighborhood Council had a productive, yet interesting year.  We drafted new bylaws, battled with local land use issues, dealt with various code enforcement issues and more.  We also had some wonderful projects including Blvd Without Borders, Saturn & L.A. Charter Backpacks as well as holiday events. This is what we accomplished:

EVENTS:

  1. Blvd. Without Borders,
  2. CD 10 Winter Wonderland,
  3. Health Fair,
  4. L.A. Charter School Backpacks,
  5. LAPD Open House,
  6. Neighbors United Holiday Outreach,
  7. Night On Crime,
  8. Banner Revitalization Support,
  9. Planning TownHall Event,
  10. Roscoe's Wall Rebuild,
  11. South Carthay Outreach Event,
  12. Tom Bradley Toy Giveaway,
  13. Wilshire Vista Sprnig Event,
  14. Wilshire Vista Heights Neighborhood Lights,

LAND USE & DEVELOPMENT:

We've had significant input on:

  1. Medians along PICO,
  2. 5353 Pico Dining restaurant,
  3. Street furniture,
  4. Senior Assisted Living development project on La Cienega,
  5. General code enforcement of trash cleanup & graffiti.

POLITICAL:

SB1818- Building relationships with new neighborhood councils to develop a Community Impact Statement on SB1818.

Prop B - Researching the arguments for the L.A. Solar Plan.

Visibility - building relationships with other councils, council congresses, fixlosangeles.com, CD10 and other supportive gov't offices. We are getting noticed, congratulated and are starting to be taken seriously. It's a long process that can only succeed with ongoing communication and involvement with these organizations.

ADMINISTRATIVE:

  1. Maintaing excellent transparency
  2. More productive meetings
  3. Raised our efficiency and effectiveness ranking among neighborhood councils from 81 to the TOP 10!!

As you can see, we have a lot to be proud of! We were able to make some huge strides in efficiencey our organization in 2008.  2009 will bring a new focus and strategy for our impact on the area during these down economic times.  It's going to be a challenging but rewarding year.

Best,

Scott McNeely
President
